Corn Cob Painting!

Hello All! I hope you are doing well and enjoying the beauty of the new season that is upon us! That’s right, Fall is here! This is my second favorite season (first is Winter-hence my daughter’s name) I love sweater weather and seeing the beautiful leaves changing colors. Now that we live in Central California, I can actually see this and enjoy the beauty of the season as it has already started here.

Now, I know that for some people, in some states, it is still very warm outside and it doesn’t quite feel like Autumn yet, but it will be here soon and while you wait you can do this fun craft with the little ones and dream of cooler Autumn days heading your way!

This great craft is one that I saw on Pintrest (there are a ton so go look them up!) and I knew instantly that I had to give it a try. It sounded kind of different but also intriguing so I gave it try with my daughter and we had a blast! It is a very simple craft, but lots of fun and a kid of any age would enjoy it.

The directions and pictures are below-I hope you enjoy it!

First, I recommend a nice large piece of paper and a place that you don’t mind getting paint on. Next, you need a couple of corn on the cobs. Make sure to take the husk completely off or you will end up with some corn hair issues. Finally, you will need some craft paints. We used some random craft paint we had lying around the house- Red, Yellow, Orange, and Green were our colors. We really wanted to present that this was a Fall craft, but you could of course choose any colors you want. I don't recommend using water colors because they might not stick as well as regular paint might. We used paper plates to put our globs of paint on and foam brushes to brush the paint onto the corn. You can wash the paint off the corn to change the colors- (IMPORTANT NOTE: You CANNOT eat the corn on the cob after using them to paint-they should go right into the trash!!!)

With mine, I just painted a third of it with each color. We also used corn cob holders (little pointing things that you stab into the ends of each cob to help you eat them- you can find them at most Grocery Stores) to help us paint, but really you don’t need them.

Winter really found the actual painting of the cob more fun than rolling it on the paper, but at least she had fun-I did too!

The next thing you do is roll the painted cob all along the paper. This is why the large paper is a great idea. Really if you could have a huge piece that would cover your whole paper, it would be best. Then, you could use it as a tablecloth and have many people comment on the unique design. See how cool the painted design is after the corn goes over it?

See how cool the picture ends up looking? I finished it by adding colored thumb prints in each color.

Here’s Winter’s. Like I said, she was a big fan of using just Pumpkin Orange while I used a bunch of different colors.
